Church of the Ascension was host to a new mode of spirited communion – Sunday, January 22, 2017 – with the jubilant concert spectacle “SUNG RA: Songs of Sun Ra”.

Rakestar Arkestra united with Tone Cluster – quite a queer choir – under the inspired conduction of Christine Duncan to deliver one and all  – briefly, timelessly – to a higher plane.

Sun Ra’s creativity was given voice in a rare choral tribute to his musical genius. The irreverent Christine Duncan led the choir and the band and the capacity audience all together in a moving manifestation of Ra’s anthem “We Travel The Spaceways”.
